Τhe Turkish Nominal Syntagmatic Sets 'Ad tamlaması': A Linguistic Approach in Turkish Second Language Acquisition and Teaching

This paper investigates the second language (L2) acquisition of Turkish category Ad tamlaması (AT). AT consists an umbrella term which is encountered in grammars and L2-Turkish coursebooks to refer three forms Nominal Syntagmatic Sets (NSS), namely a) N-(n)In N-(s)I(n), b) N N-(s)I(n) c) N-(y) . trying examine whether apparently formal similarity these 3 Tamlaması (NSS-AT) can be correlated with a respective degree ease L2 simultaneity teaching or not. The main aim this delineate differences NSS by testing them upon 12 morpho-syntactic criteria. test results will show how much syntactically analytic semantically transparent each sets is. We conclude that differentiation types does not always correspond functional- semantic differentiation, has implications on difficulties create L2-learners. learning process NSS-AT forms, we expect step ahead form compared non-analytic compounds such as more blurred cases form, shares properties both Noun Phrases (NPs) compounds. From didactic scope, come assume traditional interconnection NSS-Ad L2-teaching L2-learning methods should put aside rather give its place alternative anti-holistic approaches would uncover hidden syntactic than stress similarities between them.
